Bryan Van Der Beek

One of the gold that Singapore have is him, Bryan van der Beek. He is an award-winning commercial and editorial photographer that based in Singapore, but his images span Asia, North America, and even Europe. His amazing photography skills brought him to work with several local and international publication including The Straits Times, Time Asia, Time, and so on. Here are some photographs that were taken by him.

What I like from his photography style are the way he used light and reflection, even in black & white, it makes those photos look more strong and visually nice for me. He really knows the light proportion and use it to emphasize certain parts. The last 2 photos are my favourites. In the second last photo, it looks unity although there are combination between natural and artificial lights. I like the gradient at the sky and the contrast that created, I got the transformation that is shown there from left to right. Last but not least, this last photograph is definitely balance. I notice a lot of visual elements that he combine in this photo, contrast that created by the lights, pattern, reflection, texture, and so on. I learn that it’s good to have some visual elements in a photograph that well combined. On the other hand, Light is so important here to emphasize the subject, Without light and contrast this photo will look boring and and the focus won’t clear.
